Barcelona is one of the most popular gay destinations in Europe and there are now hotels catering specially for the gay Barcelona market.
The left hand area of Eixample (otherwise known as Gayxample) is Barcelona's gay district (North West of the main city centre) – there are many gay friendly pubs, bars, saunas and night clubs here.
This area is within easy walking distance of Plaza Catalunya and is also reached on the Metro from stations Universitat (line 1 and 2) or Urgell (line 1).

Hotel Axel is the most famous, and the first, gay hotel in Barcelona. It's located on Calle Aribau 33 in Eixample. The rooms are comfortable and stylish with prices starting from just under €100 euros for a single room and going up to €350 for a suite.
Their facilities include the rooftop terrace bar and swimming pool, massages, fitness studio, sauna, jacuzzi and Turkish bath. The hotel regularly organises parties and Thursday night is Drags and Drinks night.
Beauty and the Beach is a gay Bed and Breakfast in Barcelona. It's made up of a 2-storey penthouse apartment with four rooms all luxuriously furnished to an individual style. Each room has air conditioning, heating and a sound system. All the guests have use of the 450 square foot terrace and living area. The bed and breakfast is in Poble Nou, a new neighbourhood of Barcelona and right on the beach of Mar Bella, a nudist gay beach.
Amistad Barcelona is a gay guest house right in the centre of Barcelona's gay district. It has three bedrooms all which come with bed linen and towels. Guest can use the kitchen to prepare meals and have use of the balcony. There is a communal computer with internet access as well as all the rooms having wifi. Rates are very reasonable.
Barcelona City Centre Hostal is a gay friendly hostel on Calle Balmes, also in the Eixample district. This is a more basic, cheaper option but is situated in the gay district. The hostel has 10 rooms all with wireless internet free of charge.
Hotel California is situated in the Barrio Gotico – the old town of Barcelona, full of narrow streets and atmosphere. It's very close to La Rambla in Calle Rauric 14, and ten minutes walk to the Gayxample. The hotel is gay friendly and reasonably priced. All 31 rooms have satellite TV, air conditioning, heating and a phone.
