Newsletter #3
DATE: 23 January 2007
Dear Subscriber
Feliz Años Nuevo! Welcome to another issue of the Moving
To Barcelona newsletter.
Since my last newsletter there have been several new pages added
to Moving To Barcelona:
- A page called Legalities which goes through the stages of
how to obtain your NIE (Numero de Identificatión de Extranjero).
This includes a link to the nationwide Spanish offices that you
need
to visit with your application if you live outside Barcelona.
Legal
Requirements
- Online postcards, so you can send family and friends pictures
of Barcelona together with a personal message.
Online
Postcards
- And, there's a page about climbing in and around Barcelona,
including links to climbing guides for the area and a list of
indoor walls.

The main theme of this newsletter, however, is saving money; we
all like to do that after all.
SAVING MONEY ON ENTERTAINMENT
Did you know that if you visit the cinemas in Barcelona on a Wednesday
night that the entrance fee is cheaper? Well it's true - for
the regular cinemas anyway.
If you're watching a movie at a cinema that shows version original
films (films in their original language with subtitles in Spanish)
then Monday night is the cheaper night for most of the VO cinemas
(Boliche and Casablanca Gracia are the exceptions with their cheaper
nights being on Wednesday).
Here is a list of the version original cinemas
in Barcelona:

If you're a theatre fan then visit on a Tuesday night to get your
discount. Also, many museums are free on the first Sunday of each
month, but you need to go early as many people seem to have caught
on to this one and there are usually queues.
The Caixa Forum is an art gallery that is free and always worth
a visit. They have an excellent permanent exhibition as well as
fascinating visiting exhibitions that change on a regular basis.
The Forum has a rather nice cafe bar too. It's just off Plaza España,
walk towards the Palace and before you go up the escalators or
steps, turn right and you will find the Caixa Forum.
FREE WIFI IN LIBRARIES
If you are someone that regularly uses internet cafes because
you don't have ADSL at home yet, then perhaps you should consider
taking advantage of the free WIFI offered in Barcelona's libraries.
It's free and easy to join the library. You just need to go along
with your passport and fill in a form to obtain your library card.
Once you have that, you can use any of the libraries in Barcelona
and many of them offer free internet access. The password to access
the network is your library card number.
Many libraries don't have their own computers available, but if
you have a laptop it's the perfect place to visit and get online,
as there is usually no time limit.
SENDING FREE TEXT MESSAGES (OR SMS)
Do you always use more text messages than your mobile contract
allocates you for free? Or are you always topping up your mobile
phone because of all those text messages that you send to family
and friends. They don't cost much but they do all add up!
TextMeFree.com is a website where you can send free text messages,
not only in Spain, but to mobiles anywhere in the world. TextMeFree
is a directory of free text message service providers and lists
the services by country. Simply select the country where you need
to text, and you will be given a choice of services to use.
Some services require you to register before you can send free
sms, but others don't; some services even provide you will an inbox
where you can receive text messages online. It's a great way to
save money.

'IN THE GARLIC' OR 'EN EL AJO'
And finally, a word about a book aimed at people either moving
to or living in Spain. The book is a quirky guide to Spain and
is written by two British residents of Spain. In
the Garlic contains
helpful information and insights in to the Spanish culture, and
the Spanish way of doing things.

That's all for this issue. If you know of a good resource or have
a resource yourself that you would like mentioned, then please,
do let me know. Muchas gracias.
