Learning Spanish in Barcelona

Barcelona is full of Spanish language schools where you can learn Spanish and/or Catalan. Most of them offer intensive courses that run during the day; from one week or for as many weeks as you require.

If you're working in Spain, then you will need to find an evening course to learn Castellano (Spanish). There are fewer options here but I found four that all seem suitable (the four language schools listed below also offer daytime intensive classes).

All these evening courses run over two evenings a week, and range between 3-6 hours a week. The prices are approximately €330-€400 for 10-12 weeks of lessons - Diloga is the best value for money.

Diloga is a great little school in the centre of Gracia. I attended classes here over several months, the quality of teaching is good, the teachers don't change very often, the class sizes are small and it's excellent value for money. Evening classes are 3 hours a week, split over two evenings.

Speak Easy offer a 12 week course of 6 hours per week. They are situated in Ronda Universitat 7, very near to Placa Cataluña.

I took lessons with Speak Easy for several months and was happy with my course. I did six hours per week (three hours per day). You have the choice of Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. My only dislike was that the teachers tended to get changed at the end of the term, but apart from this the course went well.

International House, I attended the intercambio club that is held at International House and found it a good way to practise my Spanish. Most of the students I spoke to who were attending classes here were very pleased with their course.

Babylon Idiomas. I don't know anything about this school, but have listed them as they are one of the few to offer evening classes.

Intensive language courses

Of all the intensive language courses listed here, I only have feedback on Don Quijote. I know of several students who have studied at the Don Quijote school in Barcelona all of whom were very happy with their courses.

The Escola Oficial d'Idiomes Barcelona was recommended to me, but they don't do evening classes.
