    I was extended an invitation of brunch for two at Faire Brunch & Drinks by the management. So naturally I accepted. Being a fan of all things retro, I loved the way the restaurant has been decorated and furnished. Following their ethos of sustainability, all the furniture is secondhand, with most of the 60s and 70s style furniture having been brought over from the Netherlands.

    The menu offers plenty of choice, and I decided to try the organic blueberry pancakes with seasonal fruits, crushed nuts, maple syrup and cream cheese. It also came with a chocolate paste on the side. My friend chose the Sunny Side Up – two eggs on pancakes with vegan bacon, fried onions, topped with maple syrup and avocado. We both had fresh orange juice (from Seville) which was really delicious, and we both finished off with a cortado.

    We were invited to brunch during the quieter time for the restaurant, but it was still full of customers. The restaurant is made of up of two spaces either side of the main entrance to the building. There are also tables outside on the almost completed pedestrianisation of Carrer Girona, as well as a bright room and small terrace at the back of the restaurant both with tables. The staff were lovely – polite, friendly and efficient. All staff work a four day week. Tom, one of the owners, explained that if anyone needs to work a four day week it’s hospitality staff who are on their feet all day.

    Sustainability and high quality ingredients are very important to Faire Brunch & Drinks. The vast majority of their food is organic and/or sourced locally. They even go to check on the farm where they purchase their eggs, just to make sure the chickens are leading a happy life.

    It was a great brunch and overall a lovely experience to see such a commitment to organic high quality ingredients and to the environment – they actively create as little waste as possible, use eco-friendly packaging, and for every customer they plant a tree.
